Project Updates
Central Railway is examining the feasibility of developing a freight railway corridor parallel to the 701-km Nagpur–Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway. The proposal seeks to connect JNPA and the proposed Vadhavan Port with Maharashtra’s industrial and logistics network through a high-capacity multimodal freight route. The corridor is expected to improve cargo movement, reduce delivery times and strengthen export connectivity for industrial centres such as Nashik and the Niphad dry port. The project remains at the conceptual stage, with its alignment, cost, implementation schedule and execution framework yet to be finalised.
The NHAI has terminated DP Jain’s contract for the delayed 24.5-km Arakkonam–Kancheepuram section of the Bengaluru–Chennai Greenfield Expressway and invited fresh bids for the unfinished works. Construction had remained suspended since May 2025, with 11.33 km completed and overall progress reported at 53.56 per cent. The `633.12 crore EPC tender covers the remaining highway works, including nine major bridges, one railway overbridge, two grade separators, 18 underpasses and 44 box culverts. The selected contractor will be required to complete the balance work within 18 months.
The proposed `900 crore E-13 Extension Road will become the first road corridor directly connecting Amaravati with NH-16. The project includes a 609-metre railway overbridge near AIIMS Mangalagiri and a six-lane road passing through the surrounding hilly terrain. Its scope also includes a major elevated corridor linking two hills, requiring substantial bridge and hill-road construction. The corridor is expected to improve access between the capital region, NH-16 and major institutional areas. It will also strengthen regional mobility and provide an alternative high-capacity approach to Amaravati. Details regarding the executing agency, tendering schedule and construction timeline have not yet been provided.
A proposal has been submitted to extend the first phase of the Thiruvananthapuram Metro southward from Pappanamcode to Nemom railway station. The currently approved alignment covers approximately 31 km between Pappanamcode and Enchakkal with 27 stations and received in-principle approval from the Kerala government in November 2025. The proposed modification is intended to integrate Nemom railway station and improve metro access for residents beyond Pappanamcode. Incorporating the extension in Phase I could avoid the need for a separate connectivity project later. The extension remains under consideration and has not yet received government approval; its length, cost and station configuration are also yet to be determined.
The state administration has announced a multi-faceted development framework aimed at establishing Kozhikode as a premier port city through the integration of maritime logistics and urban transport. Key components of the initiative include the strengthening of regional port facilities, the development of container facilitation centres, and the construction of transshipment infrastructure to bolster economic activity and employment. Concurrently, the government is advancing plans for a Light Metro system, with project implementation contingent upon the conclusion of current feasibility studies. The master plan further contemplates the establishment of a dedicated cruise terminal, subject to the successful identification and acquisition of suitable land. This strategic development roadmap seeks to harmonize northern district port operations with the broader urban growth requirements of the city.
The Government of India, through the Ministry of Railways, has officially sanctioned the development of a new East-West Rail Corridor across the state of Maharashtra to bridge critical logistics gaps. This strategic infrastructure project is designed to integrate key industrial hubs, facilitate faster freight movement, and support the state’s expanding manufacturing ecosystem. By providing a dedicated corridor, the initiative aims to reduce transit times and operational costs for heavy industries operating within the region. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the project serves as a cornerstone for enhancing state-wide multi-modal connectivity and long-term economic growth. Stakeholders and contractors should prepare for upcoming phases involving detailed project engineering, route alignment surveys, and the subsequent commencement of procurement processes for large-scale civil works.
NHIDCL has floated an EPC tender valued at `2,765.70 crore for constructing unidirectional twin-tube tunnels and approach roads on the Chenani–Goha section of NH-244 in Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir. The project carries a completion period of 1,460 days and requires an earnest money deposit of `27.70 crore. A pre-bid meeting was held in September 2026, while bids were to be submitted in October 2026. The project represents a major tunnelling opportunity involving specialised underground construction, approach-road development and associated highway infrastructure. Following technical and financial evaluation, NHIDCL is expected to select the successful EPC contractor and proceed with contract award.
Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority has allotted 6.68 acre to Hydrogen CBG Alliance LLP for developing a green hydrogen and chemical manufacturing complex. The facility is proposed at the Hathua Phase-III Industrial Area in Gopalganj district, Bihar. The land allotment marks an early pre-construction milestone and enables the developer to advance project planning, approvals and site-development activities. The project could create opportunities in hydrogen-production systems, chemical-processing equipment, storage facilities, utilities and industrial civil works. Details regarding investment value, production capacity, construction schedule and commissioning target have not yet been announced. The Vice President of India has launched the first phase of Gauhati University’s campus infrastructure programme in Assam, estimated at `110 crore. The scope includes a new academic building, boys’ hostel, modern mess building, international students’ hostel and residential quarters for Grade-D staff. It also covers renovation of the K.K. Handique Library Seminar Hall and upgradation of the Birinchi Kumar Barua Auditorium. The first phase forms part of the Assam government’s broader `250 crore infrastructure commitment to the university. Contractor details, individual package values and construction timelines have not yet been disclosed. The Maharashtra government-backed SPV, Pune (Purandar) International Airport, has successfully secured consent for 2,857 acre, enabling the project to advance toward the tendering phase. With the deadline for voluntary consent now concluded, the authorities are initiating compulsory acquisition for the final 6 per cent of parcels to clear the site for development. This critical infrastructure project, designed to handle 75 million passengers per annum via dual 4,000-m runways, also encompasses a substantial 625-acre Aerocity featuring convention centres and commercial facilities. Following the consistent progress in compensation settlement and site clearance, formal project tenders are scheduled for release soon, marking a major milestone for regional air connectivity. The West Bengal government has announced plans to establish two ‘CM Shri’ schools in each district, modelled on the Central Government’s PM SHRI scheme. The selected schools will receive upgraded infrastructure, modern educational technology and improved facilities for academics and sports. The state also plans to establish sports centres of excellence across its northern and western districts. The initiative is currently at the announcement stage, with school locations, project costs, implementation timelines and executing agencies yet to be disclosed. Detailed guidelines are expected to define the school-selection criteria, development scope and funding arrangements. The state administration has officially cleared a diverse portfolio of manufacturing projects collectively valued at `29,679 crore, aimed at strengthening the regional industrial economy. Key stakeholders including Hero Future Energies, Mahindra Aerostructures, and Toyota Kirloskar are set to drive this expansion, which is projected to generate approximately 66,360 employment opportunities. By integrating advanced manufacturing capabilities in aerospace, bioenergy, and automotive production with the existing software ecosystem, Karnataka aims to establish a more resilient industrial landscape. These investments signal a strategic pivot toward heavy engineering and sustainable infrastructure development, paving the way for massive construction and plant setup requirements across the state’s emerging manufacturing clusters.
