BASF Kids' Lab Brings Climate Education to 1,150 Hyderabad Students

BASF, in collaboration with the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), Hyderabad, has recently organised its Kids' Lab programme from 26 to 31 October 2026, aiming to engage 1,150 municipal schoolchildren in hands-on chemistry experiments and climate action awareness.

Designed for children aged eight to 12, the initiative encourages scientific curiosity through interactive experiments while introducing concepts related to sustainability, environmental protection and climate change.

The BASF Kids' Lab programme operates in more than 30 countries and has reached over 62,000 schoolchildren across India since its introduction in 2004. Relaunched in 2023 under BASF India's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the programme focuses on climate protection and has been conducted in Chennai, Navi Mumbai, Mangalore, Bengaluru, Delhi and rural and tribal communities in Nashik district.

Kim Höffken, Managing Director, BASF Digital Solutions, said the programme encourages children to explore scientific concepts, develop critical thinking skills and understand how chemistry can address environmental challenges.

D Srinivasa Reddy, Director, CSIR-IICT, highlighted the importance of experiential science education, particularly for government school students. He noted that the collaboration complements CSIR's Jigyasa programme and acknowledged the Telangana Education Department's support in facilitating school participation.

Students participated in practical activities, including water purification experiments, gaining insights into environmental sustainability and everyday climate action.

The initiative reinforces BASF's commitment to promoting accessible science education and encouraging environmental responsibility among younger generations.
