Bihar Urges Centre to Release Pending Rs 30 bn Under PMAY-G

The Bihar government has urged the Centre to release a pending sum of Rs 30 billion (bn) under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) to expedite rural housing deliveries. The request specifies that the funds are due to support construction and completion of dwellings for eligible households and to clear pending liabilities. The state framed the appeal as necessary to maintain the pace of work across affected districts. The appeal was lodged to bridge short-term funding gaps and to prevent disruption to scheduled construction activities.

Officials noted that delayed central releases have constrained payments to beneficiaries and contractors, causing interruptions in the supply chain and labour schedules in several blocks. Administrative sources indicated that local implementing agencies are facing cash flow pressures that have slowed sanctioning of new houses under the scheme. The state therefore sought a timely disbursement to restore normal operations. Delays were reported to affect procurement cycles and the scheduling of skilled labour in rural areas.

The Centre's release is typically conditioned on documentation and compliance with scheme guidelines, and the Bihar administration said the pending tranche relates to claims already submitted. State departments have reportedly compiled requisite bills and progress reports and pressed for clearance of dues to settle contractor accounts and reimburse material costs. Rapid release was depicted as essential to avoid escalation of project backlogs. Officials stressed that clearance of the pending tranche would help in meeting reporting timelines required for future allocations.

Bihar officials set out to follow up with central authorities while continuing local-level coordination to ensure that released funds are quickly utilised. The state anticipates that prompt transfers would accelerate house completions and improve delivery outcomes for rural beneficiaries under the PMAY-G. Continued engagement was said to be planned until the allotment is finalised. The government indicated that efficient utilisation of funds on release would be monitored through existing oversight mechanisms.
