BRO Eastern Region Chiefs Convene in Guwahati to Boost Infrastructure

A defence spokesperson said that a two-day Chief Engineers' Works Conference of all Border Roads Organisation (BRO) projects in the Eastern Region was held in Guwahati on April 28 and 29 under the chairmanship of Jitendra Prasad, Additional Director General Border Roads (East). The meeting brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on the road map for the current financial year and to formulate practical strategies to achieve the targets set for infrastructure development.

All seven Chief Engineers of BRO projects in the Eastern Region attended alongside the Commandant of the Engineer Base Workshop (EBW). Delegates focused on outlining the work plan for the ongoing financial year and on devising result oriented measures to improve execution of critical road projects and related infrastructure.

Extensive discussions addressed measures to improve operational efficiency, optimise the utilisation of available resources and ensure timely execution of strategically significant projects. Special emphasis was placed on adopting best practices to enhance delivery timelines while maintaining high standards of construction and safety.

The Additional Director General is reported to have underscored the need to accelerate the pace of ongoing works without compromising quality, noting that robust infrastructure underpins operational effectiveness and public trust. The conference concluded with a commitment to higher performance benchmarks and to expediting completion of key road projects, which organisers said are expected to provide renewed momentum to ongoing works and strengthen the BRO's role in nation building. The Border Roads Organisation was established by the Government of India in 1960 to enhance connectivity and strategic infrastructure in border areas. Beginning with two projects, Tusker, now Project Vartak, and Beacon, the organisation has expanded to 18 projects across 11 states, three Union Territories and maintains a presence in Bhutan while functioning under the Ministry of Defence and supporting several central ministries.
