DMRC Awards Rs172.1 Mn Contract For Rithala-Kundli Utility Shifting

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has awarded a contract worth Rs172.1 million, hereafter Rs172.1 mn, for electrical utility shifting along the Rithala-Kundli corridor. The contract is intended to facilitate relocation of existing power infrastructure so that subsequent civil works may proceed without interruption. The award follows preparatory planning for the corridor and forms part of scheduled enabling works for the line.

The scope of work covers diversion and replacement of overhead and underground cables, relocation of distribution transformers and switchgear, and establishment of temporary supply arrangements to maintain power for local users. The contractor is required to obtain statutory clearances and to coordinate closely with local utilities and authorities when executing the works. Traffic management measures and phased sequencing will be implemented to minimise disruption to commuters and residents. Work plans will include provisions for emergency restoration and communication with stakeholders to address unforeseen outages.

The contractor must comply with prescribed safety and environmental standards and provide protective installations around work zones. Testing and certification of relocated electrical installations will be required before formal handover to the utility operator. Progress reporting and periodic inspections by the DMRC project management team will form part of the monitoring regime. Contractual penalties and performance benchmarks will apply to maintain momentum and accountability.

Completion of the utility shifting is expected to clear the way for major civil activities along the Rithala-Kundli corridor and to reduce the likelihood of delays caused by encountering live services during excavation. The works are positioned as an enabling milestone to support the timely delivery of the corridor and to safeguard public convenience. The DMRC will retain oversight and enforce contractual obligations to ensure quality and schedule adherence.

How Hormuz is Hijacking Indian Highways

At the recently held RAHSTA Round Table on 29th April in Pune, and earlier during our webinars for Cement Expo by Indian Cement Review and by FIRST Construction Council on manufacturing construction equipment for the world, one thread lay common: the industry is being subjected to a cost-push chain reaction moving from crude oil → freight/insurance → steel, cement fuel, bitumen, polymers, packaging, logistics and finally project margins. Indeed, the West Asia crisis caused by the war and the Hormuz Strait blockade, which does not directly concern us, has turned around and hit us. If the wa..
