Geospatial technology company Genesys International has secured a Rs. 2.83 bn World Bank-funded contract to develop a comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS) 3D digital map platform for Ahmedabad, the company said in a statement. The initiative is part of the Gujarat Resilient Cities Partnership programme and is intended to strengthen urban delivery and financial systems. It is being positioned as one of India's largest digital twin projects. The project will cover approximately 625 square kilometres of the city and create a detailed digital representation of its land parcels, properties, roads, water networks, sewerage systems, stormwater drainage infrastructure and other critical civic assets. It will also record underground infrastructure, including the location and depth of utility networks, within a central GIS database. Genesys International will survey, geocode and assign unique digital identities to 2,500,000 properties, creating a property-level spatial database for Ahmedabad. The database is intended to support more accurate land and asset records while bringing information on civic infrastructure into a common spatial platform. The property-level identities will allow civic records to be linked to mapped locations, helping establish a consistent reference for planning, service delivery and future updates to the digital twin. The company will use advanced sensors to produce the high-accuracy model and integrate data from surface and underground assets. The resulting platform is expected to support urban planning, infrastructure management and citizen services by giving authorities a continuously updated view of the city and its connected systems. The contract is scheduled to be completed over two-and-a-half years, followed by five years of operation and maintenance, according to the company. Genesys International said the project would help governments plan more effectively, manage infrastructure efficiently and respond to citizen requirements with greater precision. It described the initiative as a major step towards the use of spatial intelligence and physical artificial intelligence systems in governance delivery.
