Jupiter International Inaugurates 1.25 GW TOPCon Unit in Himachal

City based Jupiter International inaugurated a new one point two five gigawatt (GW) Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) solar cell manufacturing unit at its Baddi facility in Himachal Pradesh, taking its total solar cell manufacturing capacity to 3.25 GW from two GW. The company said it invested Rs 5.5 billion (bn) in setting up the unit. The facility will produce next generation high efficiency TOPCon solar cells that are increasingly being adopted by the solar industry for higher efficiency and improved long term performance.

The commissioning of the unit marks Jupiter International's transition from expanding manufacturing capacity to scaling advanced cell technologies, the company said in a statement. The latest expansion follows the addition of one GW mono PERC solar cell manufacturing capacity at the Baddi campus earlier this year. The new unit is described as part of a broader technology and capacity scaling effort at the site.

Jupiter International's chief executive Dhruv Sharma said the commencement of production at Unit IV Baddi would be a defining step in the company's technology journey and that bringing one point two five GW of TOPCon capacity into production would raise the bar on efficiency and long term performance. He added the move aligns with the company's objective to scale next generation cell technology. The statement emphasised continuity in technological upgrades across successive units.

The expansion is positioned as a response to evolving industry demand for higher efficiency cells and to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities without specifying production timelines. The Baddi campus now hosts multiple unit types and the company characterised the development as part of its long term strategy. Observers will watch how the increased TOPCon capacity integrates with existing mono PERC output and supply chains.
