Kathua Unveils First-Ever Municipal Parking Complex in Milestone Urban Upgrade

In a defining moment for urban infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah jointly inaugurated Kathua’s first Municipal Parking Complex, marking the town’s transition from modest beginnings to a modern urban centre.

Reflecting on Kathua’s journey, Dr. Singh reminisced, “There was a time when only three cars were seen in the town — one each of the DC, SP, and Executive Engineer. Today, we stand at the threshold of a new era, where structured parking solutions are a necessity.” He hailed the project as emblematic of aspirational growth and infrastructural progress in the region.

The presence of CM Omar Abdullah was described as a powerful statement of Centre-State cooperation, showcasing a shared vision to accelerate Jammu & Kashmir’s development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The newly inaugurated complex is part of a broader infrastructure push in Kathua, which has seen sweeping changes in recent years. Dr. Singh highlighted transformative projects such as:

Launch of Vande Bharat trains Modernisation of Kathua railway station Establishment of three medical colleges, a Biotech Park, and engineering and homoeopathy institutions Construction of the Express Corridor poised to connect Kathua to Delhi within five hours

Beyond physical infrastructure, the Minister also addressed pressing social concerns, urging a united front against illegal mining and drug abuse. “Kathua must shed these associations and emerge as a model town, powered by civic awareness and community participation,” he said.

The event also recognised other landmark initiatives, including the Kediyan-Gandyal bridge, Maharaja Gulab Singh’s statue, and a sports stadium developed with BCCI support. The role of Corporate Social Responsibility in projects like Birla Park was lauded, with Dr. Singh inviting the CM to explore the space during his morning walks.

In a poignant message, the Minister reminded attendees of the human capital behind these developments. “Who will drive the Vande Bharat trains or utilise these amenities if our youth are lost to addiction? Our growth must be mirrored by our social resilience,” he said.

Closing his remarks, Dr. Singh declared, “Kathua today is more than a town — it’s a beacon of transformation, a tribute to visionaries like Syama Prasad Mukherjee, and an inspiration for the future.”

The inauguration of Kathua’s parking complex stands not just as a functional milestone, but as a symbol of the region’s socio-economic renaissance.
