Make in India Marks 10 Years with Commemorative Coin

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, unveiled the Make in India Commemorative Coin in New Delhi, celebrating a decade of the initiative. Over ten years, Make in India has facilitated investment, promoted innovation, built world-class infrastructure, and positioned India as a global hub for manufacturing, design, and technology. Under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, the programme has strengthened domestic manufacturing, enhanced skill development, and attracted foreign investment.
Shri Goyal noted that since the initiative’s launch on 25th September 2014, India has transformed into a resilient, self-reliant, and globally competitive economy. The initiative has boosted confidence in manufacturing, shifting the country from a primarily service-driven economy to a recognised global manufacturing powerhouse. Between 2014 and 2024, India attracted USD 667 billion in foreign direct investment, accounting for nearly two-thirds of all inflows since liberalisation. Merchandise exports reached USD 437.42 billion in FY 2024-25, further establishing India as a key player in global trade.
India’s startup ecosystem now includes over 180,000 DPIIT-recognised startups, generating more than 1.76 million jobs and hosting 118 unicorns as of 2025. The Production Linked Incentives (PLI) scheme, with an outlay of Rs 1.97 trillion across 14 sectors, has attracted Rs 1.88 trillion in investments, generating over 1.2 million direct and indirect jobs. India has become the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, producing 99 per cent of smartphones domestically. Indigenous projects such as the Vande Bharat trains and INS Vikrant highlight engineering excellence, while defence production reached Rs 1.51 trillion in 2024-25, with exports of Rs 23.6 billion to over 80 countries. Five Positive Indigenization Lists covering more than 5,500 items have been issued, with 3,000 items already indigenised, including fighter aircraft, tanks, artillery, corvettes, sonar systems, and helicopters.
In pharmaceuticals and medical devices, 21 PLI projects are producing 54 unique devices, including MRI machines, CT scanners, heart valves, stents, and dialysis equipment. India has also begun domestic production of key components for air conditioners and LED lights, reducing import dependency. In semiconductors, India is progressing towards manufacturing its first 2 nm chip, advancing from earlier 7, 5, and 3 nm technologies, supporting AI, smartphones, high-performance systems, national security, and space applications.
These achievements illustrate the transformative impact of Make in India over the past decade, laying a strong foundation for a future-ready economy and contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
