NHAI Adds Digital Local Pass And Multilingual MargMitra

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded the RajmargYatra mobile application to include a Digital Local Pass and MargMitra, a multilingual AI powered help centre designed to reduce paperwork, simplify toll related services and provide faster support for National Highway users. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced the additions as part of efforts to modernise highway customer service and integrate digital platforms. The features aim to streamline commuter procedures and improve transparency.\n\nThe Digital Local Pass enables eligible commuters to purchase a monthly local toll pass through the app without visiting a toll plaza, with an initial rollout at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi's Urban Extension Road II, and is expected to expand to more toll plazas in the coming months. Residents within a 20-kilometre radius of an eligible toll plaza may apply digitally and, once approved, make unlimited trips through the respective plaza during the validity period. Verification is performed by integrating with DigiLocker and VAHAN, with GIS based location checks used to confirm address, vehicle registration and the linked FASTag account.\n\nMargMitra is a conversational help centre accepting typed or spoken queries in any of the 22 officially supported Indian languages and offering information on FASTag recharge, KYC, refund status, Annual Pass and Local Pass services. The system routes complaints that require intervention to the relevant department and allows users to monitor grievance status in real time and to file an appeal if they are not satisfied with a resolution. It also enables checks on FASTag blacklisting, displays pending e-notices and permits reporting of road safety issues including stalled vehicles and encroachments on National Highways.\n\nNHAI said the digital process reduces the time required to obtain a Local Pass and improves transparency and accuracy in records. The authority noted that more than eight million (mn) Annual Passes have already been sold through the application with real time activation and emphasised the expanding digital ecosystem. Users are encouraged to download the RajmargYatra app on Android and iOS to access the new services.
