Odisha Seeks Private Investment for Ganjam Tourism Infrastructure

The Odisha government is seeking private investment in Ganjam district’s tourism sector, with opportunities identified in beach resorts, hotels, homestays, eco-tourism and adventure-based activities. The initiative aims to strengthen infrastructure and develop the district’s major tourist destinations.

Speaking at a tourism investors’ meet in Chhatrapur, Balwant Singh, commissioner-cum-secretary of the Tourism department, highlighted Ganjam’s combination of beaches, hills, religious sites and cultural heritage. He said the district offered considerable scope for tourism development and urged investors to examine opportunities across the region.

The destinations identified during the meeting included Gopalpur and Sonapur beaches, the Rambha-Barakul area along Chilika Lake and the Tara Tarini temple. Officials said greater private participation could help improve visitor facilities and unlock the tourism potential of these locations.

Ganjam collector V Keerthi Vasan said the district administration would provide continued support to entrepreneurs pursuing tourism projects. The administration was facilitating land identification, single-window clearances, policy assistance and the development of supporting infrastructure, he said. Projects could also be undertaken through the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The meeting focused on identifying commercially viable investment opportunities and encouraging private participation in the development of tourist destinations and related facilities. Beach tourism, hospitality, eco-tourism and adventure activities were among the sectors discussed by participants.

Hotel owners, tourism entrepreneurs, young business aspirants and district-level officials from several departments attended the deliberations. The administration’s outreach is intended to connect prospective investors with available opportunities and support mechanisms while promoting a broader development framework for tourism in Ganjam.

Cement Prices Likely to Rise Rs. 10-15 per Bag from Mid-October

Cement manufacturers in India are likely to raise prices by Rs. 10-15 per bag from mid-October, as they seek to offset persistent increases in power and fuel costs. Emkay Research said its channel checks indicated a high probability of an increase from October 12, supported by the start of the busy construction season and favourable demand-supply conditions. The sector had implemented similar rate adjustments of Rs. 10-15 per bag during the first quarter, but the increases were insufficient to cover higher operating costs. Prices also softened during July and August because of the monsoon, wid..
