Petros Stone Delivers Engineered Slate Solution for Bhutan Monastery

Petros Stone LLP, a manufacturer and exporter of premium natural stone products, has successfully supplied and installed a specially engineered natural black slate solution for a prestigious monastery project in Bhutan.

The project required 100% natural black slate with an anti-skid surface finish, high weather resistance and consistent visual quality for long-term outdoor applications. However, conventional slate materials were unable to meet these requirements due to excessive natural variation and the risk of foliation and cracking after surface treatment.

To overcome these challenges, Petros Stone LLP developed a specialised processing method to manufacture thick natural black slate slabs with a durable anti-skid finish. The treatment enhanced slip resistance while preserving the stone’s natural texture and appearance, making it suitable for outdoor pathways and high-footfall areas exposed to changing weather conditions.

The project also involved precision fabrication of slate slabs with round and square cuts using advanced water jet technology. The process ensured accurate dimensions, clean edges and seamless installation while maintaining the structural integrity of the natural stone.

Further enhancing the stone’s durability, Petros Stone LLP incorporated advanced resin impregnation technology to improve structural stability while retaining its natural character. The approach helped minimise cracking risks and ensured long-term performance in demanding outdoor environments.

The project involved a complex logistics operation, with the finished slate material transported nearly 4,000 km from India to Bhutan. Despite challenging terrain and long-distance movement, Petros Stone LLP ensured safe delivery and successful installation at the monastery site.

Rishabh Jain, Director – International Business, Petros Stone LLP, said, “This project reflects Petros Stone LLP’s commitment to delivering highly customised natural stone solutions for architecturally and culturally significant projects. By combining traditional natural stone aesthetics with advanced processing technology, including precision water jet fabrication and specialised surface finishing, we created a product that met the monastery’s requirements for safety, durability and visual consistency.”

The successful completion of the Bhutan monastery project highlights Petros Stone LLP’s expertise in developing customised natural stone solutions for specialised applications and strengthens its presence in international premium stone markets.
