REI Expo 2026 Attracts Rs 32 bn Bioenergy Investment Pipeline

Investors have pledged more than Rs. 32 bn for projects in the biogas and compressed biogas (CBG) sector at the recently held Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2026, according to the Indian Biogas Association (IBA). The commitments represent an estimated investment pipeline linked to the event.

The three-day exhibition was held from October 22 to 24 at the India Expo Mart & Centre in Greater Noida. It brought together industry stakeholders to explore business partnerships, emerging technologies and opportunities to expand bioenergy production across India.

The IBA said the expo highlighted rising commercial interest in biogas and CBG. Its pavilion presented solutions covering waste-to-energy, biogas upgrading, CBG production, biomass utilisation and organic-waste management, reflecting the expanding role of the circular bioeconomy.

The event also hosted the International Bio-Energy Conference on October 24, organised by the IBA. Sessions examined the development of an integrated CBG ecosystem, investment opportunities, technology advancement and next-generation renewable fuels. Discussions also covered feedstock management, project financing, technology efficiency and the development of commercially viable bioenergy projects.

The expo took place against the backdrop of the government's Rs. 237.31 bn GOBARdhan National Circular Bioenergy Scheme, which aims to accelerate domestic CBG production over the next decade. Its pricing framework, offtake provisions and financial support mechanisms are expected to support investment, improve project viability and help the sector move from small-scale installations to commercially scalable infrastructure.

IBA Chairman Gaurav Kedia said the investment commitment associated with REI 2026 reflected growing confidence in India's bioenergy sector. He added that the next priority was to convert investment interest into financially viable and operational projects, ensuring that proposed developments contribute to a stronger domestic CBG ecosystem.
