Solex Energy Plans US Module and Cell Manufacturing Projects

Solex Energy plans to establish solar module and cell manufacturing capacities in the US as part of a $1.5 bn investment roadmap through 2030. The Gujarat-based renewable energy company is seeking a global presence as demand for clean energy components increases and US trade measures restrict Chinese supplies.

Chairman and Managing Director Chetan Shah said the US was a high-potential market and that the company was evaluating an expansion there. Solex Energy is positioning the proposed facilities as a reliable and cost-effective alternative for US buyers, while seeking to benefit from the country’s large solar market and duties on Chinese imports.

The company has formed a team to study potential locations, investment requirements and other parameters for the US projects. Shah did not disclose further details, citing regulatory compliance, but said the proposed investments would be included in the company’s overall plan through 2030.

In India, Solex Energy operates a 4 gigawatt (GW) module manufacturing facility in Gujarat and plans to increase its module capacity to 10 GW. It is also establishing 10 GW of cell manufacturing capacity and 2 GW of ingot and wafer production capacity as it expands its domestic manufacturing base.

Shah said the solar industry had invested billions of rupees in Indian module capacity to support the country’s net-zero objectives. He also sought an extension of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers-II framework by at least 12 months, citing limited cell availability and the gap between module and cell capacity.

India had about 262 GW of module manufacturing capacity and around 37 GW of cell capacity as of October 2026, according to Shah. He said much of the installed capacity used older monocrystalline passivated emitter and rear contact technology, while several facilities were not operational, even as newer capacities were being developed for tunnel oxide passivated contact technology.
