Standard KAVACH Commissioned In Solapur Division

The Solapur Division of Central Railway has commissioned the Standard KAVACH system on the Solapur?Wadi section, covering a route length of 149.476 kilometres, according to a railway release. It is the first commissioning of the Standard KAVACH system in the Solapur Division and is described as a boost to railway safety and operational excellence.

KAVACH is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system under the Government of India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative designed to strengthen safeguards against collisions. It protects against head?on and rear?end collisions and enables automatic SOS alerts from locomotives during unusual stoppages within block sections. A manual SOS function is available for use by the locomotive pilot to aid emergency response and incident management.

The Standard KAVACH system operates as a non?signalling?based solution through continuous communication between KAVACH?equipped locomotives and infrastructure, using Radio?Frequency Identification based track identification to ensure accurate train positioning. As part of the work, 1,234 RFID tags were installed and programmed across the Solapur?Wadi block sections in accordance with the approved design. Validation and field trials were carried out in compliance with the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) standards and are reported to confirm the system's reliability and readiness for deployment.

Commissioning was executed by the Signal and Telecommunication Department, Project Unit, Solapur Division and is framed as a significant milestone in strengthening safety infrastructure. The deployment is expected to enhance operational reliability, improve train safety and contribute to more efficient services for passengers and freight. The outcome is presented as reflecting the division's commitment to modernisation, technological innovation and the vision of a safer, smarter and self?reliant railway network under Atmanirbhar Bharat.
