Air India's Milestone: Boeing 777's First International C-Check

The Air India (AI) Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) depot, now referred to as AIESL, situated in Mihan-SEZ, is poised to welcome its inaugural foreign flight after almost a decade since it commenced operations within the Mihan-SEZ area back in 2015.

It was originally planned for the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing to manage this MRO, making it one of the earliest substantial investments in the SEZ located in Nagpur. Its establishment was part of the offset agreement involving the acquisition of 111 aircraft for Air India and Indian Airlines during Praful Patel's tenure as the civil aviation minister.

At present, there are expectations that a Boeing 777 from Kuwait will land at the MRO facility for a C check within the next 4 to 5 days. This specific maintenance task represents a high-level, advanced servicing job. It marks the first instance in which the MRO will directly accommodate a foreign entity, despite the primary mandate of units within the SEZ being related to the export of goods or services.
