On Thursday, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari told the media that the emergency landing facilities for the Indian Air Force' planes would be developed within 15 days instead of 1.5 years.

Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister, and Gadkari inaugurated a 3-km-long emergency landing facility on National Highway 925 in Rajasthan for the IAF aircraft. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) took approximately 19 months to build the emergency landing strip on the Satta-Gandharv stretch on NH-925 in Barmer.

NH-925 is the first national highway of India to be utilised for emergency landing by the IAF planes.

Gadkari said the armed forces must build a small airport there.

Emergency landing facilities will be built in Andhra Pradesh on Nellore – Ongole road and Ongole – Chilakaluripet road, Kharagpur – Balasore road in West Bengal, Phalodi – Jaisalmer road and Barmer – Jaisalmer road in Rajasthan, Chennai in Tamil Nadu, near Sangrur in Punjab, on Puducherry road, on Bhuj-Naliya road in Gujarat and Surat-Baroda road, in Haryana on Mandi Dabwali to Odhan road, Bagdogra-Hashirama road, Kharagpur – Keonjhar road and near Panagarh or KKD, Hashirama-Tezpur route, Leh/Nyoma area in Assam and on the Jorhat-Baraghat road, in Jammu and Kashmir in the Banihal-Srinagar road, near Sivasagar, and Hashirama-Guwahati road in Assam.
