Thiruvananthapuram Airport to Get Rs. 25 bn Terminal Expansion

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, managed by Adani Airports, will undergo a Rs. 25 bn terminal expansion under Project Anantha. The project is intended to increase international passenger-handling capacity and improve operational efficiency at the Kerala airport.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for October 15, coinciding with the airport completing five years under its current management. The development will cover approximately 92,552 square metres and raise annual international passenger capacity from 3.5 mn to around 11.5 mn.

Project Anantha forms part of a wider transformation programme supported by an investment of approximately Rs. 87 bn from Adani Airports. The programme includes terminal expansion and upgrades to landside and airside infrastructure, utilities, safety systems and passenger facilities.

The airport said its daily aircraft movements had doubled from 45 to 90 over the past five years, while daily passenger handling had nearly tripled from about 5,500 to 15,000. The expansion is designed to strengthen the airport’s role as a gateway connecting Kerala with destinations across India and overseas.

The expanded departure facility will cover 78,522 square metres and include 48 check-in positions, comprising 44 conventional counters and four self-bag-drop units. It will also have 38 emigration counters, seven pre-embarkation security positions, seven Code C aircraft stands, two Multiple Aircraft Ramp System stands and upgraded baggage facilities.

The arrival facility will cover 14,030 square metres and include 40 immigration counters and four baggage belts, comprising two measuring 70 metres each and two measuring 50 metres each. Additional facilities will include baggage break-up areas and dedicated spaces for Customs, the Bureau of Immigration, the Central Industrial Security Force, the Airport Health Organisation and other agencies. Expanded retail, duty-free and passenger amenities are also planned.
