Govt to construct 27 roads along Sino-Indian borders

Along the India-China border, the Union government is to construct 27 strategic border roads. Approving the road works the government has estimated cost for the same at Rs 1,937 crore. This was stated by Minister of State for Home Mullapally Ramachandran in Lok Sabha February 26.

The roads will improve effective movement and operational requirement of Indo Tibetan Border Police, he said. Fifteen of these roads are being constructed by Border Roads Organisation (BRO), eight by Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and two by National Project Construction Corporation.

Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department is constructing two roads which connects Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. Of these 27 roads, construction of one road has been completed. Construction of 25 roads is in progress and the construction work of one road will start this year, the Minister said.
