AI Survey Finds 82.1 Per Cent of Bengaluru North Roads in Good Condition

Bengaluru North City Corporation conducted an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based survey of road conditions across 2,493.5 km in seven divisions and 72 wards. The assessment identified 14,393 potholes, equivalent to an average of 5.8 potholes per kilometre within the corporation’s limits.

The survey used real-time images captured through dashcams to assess road surfaces and identify locations requiring repairs. It also recorded damage caused by utility works undertaken by departments including BWSSB and BESCOM, with road cutting and related deterioration documented as part of the exercise.

According to the findings, 1,426.8 km of roads were classified as being in good condition, while 607.1 km had minor surface defects. Together, these categories represented 82.1 per cent of the surveyed road length, which the corporation described as being in good to adequate condition.

The remaining 17.9 per cent of the road network was affected by localised road damage, utility-related works and issues involving unpaved or kaccha roads. The survey was intended to provide detailed information on road conditions and support the identification of stretches requiring intervention.

The corporation said roads affected by these issues would be considered for development under future road development plans, based on requirements. The planned interventions are intended to improve road connectivity and provide safer access for the public. The findings give the civic body a technology-based assessment of road conditions across its jurisdiction and a basis for prioritising repair and development work.
