All Clear for Mumbai Coastal Road Extension, Work to Begin Soon: Piyush Goyal

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Textiles, Piyush Goyal, announced that all major approvals and clearances for the Mumbai Coastal Road extension project have been secured, paving the way for construction to commence soon.

The Coastal Road currently stretches from Marine Drive in South Mumbai to Worli, where it connects with the Bandra–Worli Sea Link. Future phases will extend the road northward to Versova and ultimately to Virar in Palghar district, significantly improving connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Once completed, the travel time between Nariman Point and Virar is expected to drop to just 35–40 minutes.

Goyal confirmed that all necessary permissions — including land acquisition, transfer of saltpan lands, and clearances from the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), Environment Ministry, and Forest Department — have been obtained.

“With all major hurdles cleared, the Mumbai Coastal Road project is now set to progress swiftly,” the Minister stated following a high-level review meeting held in Mumbai.
