Delhi Government Launches Rs. 1.7 bn Industrial Infrastructure Projects

The Delhi government has launched infrastructure projects valued at around Rs. 1.7 bn across nine industrial areas, covering nearly 15 km of roads and 34 km of stormwater drainage systems. The initiative is intended to address long-standing civic deficiencies, improve industrial connectivity and strengthen basic services in areas supporting manufacturing and commercial activity.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the projects at Rajasthani Udyog Nagar Industrial Area on Tuesday. She indicated that funding would not constrain industrial development and said the programme would focus on improving road conditions, preventing waterlogging and ensuring that industrial areas were not excluded from the development process.

The works include underground utility ducts for electricity, water, telecommunications and other services. These ducts are intended to reduce repeated excavation of newly improved roads and help coordinate the provision and maintenance of essential utilities. The upgrades are also designed to improve traffic movement, reduce dust and vehicle-related pollution, and create more suitable conditions for industrial operations.

Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said several industrial areas had faced inadequate infrastructure for years, resulting in poorly maintained roads and related civic problems. He said the initiative would cover both construction and regular maintenance, with the aim of keeping the infrastructure functional and in good condition over the long term rather than limiting the programme to initial development works.

The projects cover Rajasthani Udyog Nagar, GTK Udyog Nagar, Naraina Industrial Area, Lawrence Road, Najafgarh’s Rama Road, DLF Moti Nagar, Nangloi Jat and S-Block, and Okhla Phase II, among other locations. Sirsa said better roads, drainage and utility management would facilitate the movement of goods, improve business efficiency and support investment and employment generation across Delhi’s industrial areas. The government’s focus on coordinated infrastructure is expected to address operational difficulties faced by businesses while improving access and circulation within the industrial zones.
