Kalihundi Road Project Gets Rs. 30 mn Push After Decade-Long Delay

A road connecting Kalihundi village to the Addahalli bridge in Saraguru will be asphalted under a Rs. 30 mn project after remaining pending for nearly a decade, according to MLA Anil Chikkamadu. The foundation stone for the work was laid in Kalihundi, with the project covering a route used by settlements along the Kabini right-bank canal.

The road falls within the K. Belathur gram panchayat and runs along the canal embankment. The foundation ceremony also covered construction of a concrete road in the village. The wider package of local development works announced for Kalihundi and nearby areas has an allocation of more than Rs. 65 mn.

The listed funding includes Rs. 10 mn under the Village Development Scheme and another Rs. 10 mn for asphalting the road between Ibjalu village and Kalihundi. A further Rs. 4 mn has been allocated under the Model Village programme, while Rs. 4.5 mn has been earmarked for construction of the Chakkur–Kalihundi road.

The package also includes Rs. 2 mn for a minor bridge and Rs. 2 mn for a road linking the Government Higher Primary School with the Keerthi Narayana Swamy Temple. The works cover separate stretches and facilities, combining transport infrastructure with community development in the gram panchayat area. Grants were also announced for development of the Vokkaliga community hall and the temple.

Officials present at the ceremony included Tahsildar Mohankumari, Executive Officer Premkumar, engineers Usha, Ramesh and Govindanayak, and other administrative and public works representatives. Police Sub-Inspector R. Kiran, elected representatives, panchayat officials and local leaders also attended. The report did not specify the road length, contractor, tender value beyond the stated allocation, construction schedule or traffic-management arrangements.

Cement Prices Likely to Rise Rs. 10-15 per Bag from Mid-October

Cement manufacturers in India are likely to raise prices by Rs. 10-15 per bag from mid-October, as they seek to offset persistent increases in power and fuel costs. Emkay Research said its channel checks indicated a high probability of an increase from October 12, supported by the start of the busy construction season and favourable demand-supply conditions. The sector had implemented similar rate adjustments of Rs. 10-15 per bag during the first quarter, but the increases were insufficient to cover higher operating costs. Prices also softened during July and August because of the monsoon, wid..
