Mumbai’s Vidyavihar Flyover Set to Open on 10 October

The main flyover at Vidyavihar railway station in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area is scheduled to open for traffic by 10 October 2026, after the completion of most construction and finishing work. The structure connects Ramchandra Chemburkar Marg on the eastern side with Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg on the western side.

Only the installation of noise barriers remains substantially incomplete, with the work in its final stage. The barriers are intended to reduce the impact of traffic noise on nearby residents. Painting, lighting, road construction and other finishing activities have already been completed.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects), Abhijit Bangar, inspected the site along with traffic police officials. He reviewed arrangements for managing vehicles and pedestrians when the flyover becomes operational and directed the civic and police authorities to coordinate closely.

The two-lane flyover has a total length of 650 m. Its design includes a 100 m span over the railway tracks, an eastern approach road measuring 220 m and a western approach road extending 330 m. The structure is intended to provide a direct connection between the roads on either side of the station.

The project also includes a link to the station’s walkways. Ticket offices on both sides, the station master’s office and staircases have been rebuilt as part of the work. A staircase within the railway premises connects the pedestrian path with the service road, supporting access for station users and local pedestrians.

Bangar also instructed officials to review traffic flow on adjoining roads, major junctions and signal points. The directions included installing signboards and barricades, regulating vehicle movement where required in coordination with the traffic police, and preparing measures to prevent congestion on the approach roads during peak hours. Officials were also asked to prioritise pedestrian safety as the facility is brought into use.
