NHAI Plans Rs. 665.3 mn Upgrade on Jabalpur NH-34 Stretch

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids for one-time improvement works on a 12.138-km bypassed stretch of NH-34 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The section was bypassed after the Jabalpur Ring Road came into use, and the proposed work is intended to improve the road’s condition and usability for traffic passing through nearby built-up areas.

The project has an estimated cost of Rs. 665.3 mn, excluding GST. It covers the section between design chainages km 86.562 and 98.700, with a completion period of 12 months and a three-year defect liability period. The bid process opened on September 28, while submissions will remain open until October 27.

The planned works include reconstruction of the main carriageway with rigid pavement, construction of reinforced cement concrete drains in built-up areas, and installation of a median, road furniture and highway lighting. NHAI has also proposed widening 17 culverts, widening the minor bridge at Km 88+780 and rebuilding another minor bridge at Km 93+813.

The project includes development of 24 junctions along the stretch, where local and through traffic frequently intersect. The junction, drainage, bridge and lighting works are intended to improve traffic management, road visibility and the condition of infrastructure along the bypassed corridor. The contract will be awarded through competitive e-tendering, with a bid security requirement of Rs. 13.31 mn. The contract value is stated at Rs. 665.3 mn. The eventual benefits for road users will depend on the award, execution and completion of the works.
