PMC Sets Deadlines for Pune Road Works Ahead of 2027 Tour

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has set deadlines for Tata Projects to complete road and median works along the Pune Grand Tour 2027 route. Median improvements on a 4.5-km stretch must be completed by November 30, while all remaining works and corrections on Baner and Ganeshkhind roads must be finished by December 31, 2026.

The deadlines were issued during a review meeting attended by municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary. The officials expressed displeasure over poor workmanship, incorrect alignment and levels of road medians, incomplete finishing and inadequate supervision along Metro Line 3 between District Court and Balewadi.

The PMC will establish a joint task force comprising its road department, PMRDA, Tata Projects and the traffic police. The task force will monitor construction and submit weekly progress reports to senior officials. The civic body has also instructed the agencies to remove construction debris, excess material and obstructions from footpaths between Sancheti Hospital and Balewadi.

Unnecessary material, safety barricades and signboards at completed sites must be removed within a week. The review also examined proposed improvements to five major junctions and U-turns, as well as footpaths, pedestrian facilities, cycle tracks and lighting along the metro corridor.

PMC road department head Somnath Bankar said officials had been instructed to develop a continuous, safe 75-km cycle-track network. They were also directed to enforce standard operating procedures for utility trench refilling and manhole levelling to prevent premature damage to roads. The civic body said the upgrades were intended to provide longer-term benefits to residents beyond the international cycling event.
