Tripura Govt signs Rs 6.92 bn MoU for ropeway construction to enhance tourism

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that the state government has launched a comprehensive plan to enhance tourism in Tripura. He mentioned that the Tripura Tourism Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs 6.92 billion for the construction of ropeways.

This announcement was made during the World Tourism Day 2024 event, which also recognised the unsung heroes of the recent floods in Tripura, held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan.

Dr Saha explained that the MoU was established between the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation and National Highways Logistics Management. It aims to construct ropeways connecting Udaipur Railway Station to various destinations, including Matabari, Maharto Chabimura, Surmachara, and Jampui Hills, with a total investment of Rs 6.92 billion.

The Chief Minister underscored the significance of the tourism industry as a vital sector for economic growth both in the country and the state. He stated that the state government is implementing a multi-faceted plan to develop tourism. He noted that Georgia is the host country for World Tourism Day this year and highlighted that Tripura's natural environment is one of its key tourism assets. Furthermore, he mentioned that the state is home to several temples and mosques that contribute to religious tourism, including Tripura Sundari Temple, Kasba Kalibari, Fourteenth Goddess Temple, Mangalchandi Temple of Amarpur, and Mahamuni Pagoda. Efforts are underway to beautify Matabari in Udaipur, while Narkelkunja and Dumbur have already been enhanced to attract tourists.

Dr. Saha also emphasized the ongoing development of the state's tourist infrastructure through various central schemes. He remarked that tourism is one of the largest sources of employment and plays a crucial role in economic prosperity and poverty alleviation. He noted that forty-one modern log huts have been constructed and commissioned at different tourist centers across the state.
