Ullal Road Upgrade Gets Rs. 300 mn for Four-Lane Project

The Ullal road upgrade in Karnataka has received Rs. 300 mn for developing a four-lane corridor between Thokkottu Overbridge Circle and Ullalbail. Work is expected to begin next month after completion of the tender process, Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader said following an inspection with Public Works Department engineers.

The project will begin with the construction of 12 m-high retaining walls on both sides of the road. The structures are required because houses occupy the lower section near the overbridge, making it difficult to raise and widen the road through earth filling. The four-lane carriageway will be developed after the retaining work.

The road between Abbakka Circle and Ullalbail has already undergone widening and concreting, but the overbridge section remains constrained by the built-up area below it. Khader said Ullal had developed into a major residential settlement as people moved to the area for housing and business, increasing the need for infrastructure expansion.

The plan also includes two new bridges and two service lanes. The service lanes are scheduled to be built during the first two to three months, linking Vasukinagar and Inner Ullal with the overbridge on one side and providing a corresponding service route on the other. The work is intended to create an alternative movement pattern around the existing narrow road.

Additional allocations have been made for nearby road projects. Ullal Jetty Road has received Rs. 40 mn, while Rs. 91.5 mn has been sanctioned for the Mangaluru–Cheruvathur coastal road, also known as Paris Road. Tendering has been completed for work valued at Rs. 65 mn, with the remaining Rs. 27.5 mn scheduled for execution.

Khader has asked people who constructed buildings on government land along Paris Road to leave the space required for widening and cooperate with the project. Authorities have not announced a final completion date, detailed bridge design, traffic-management plan or any rehabilitation and compensation measures for potentially affected properties.
