Vijaywada Division of Railways saves 15 lakh power units

The Vijayawada Division of the South Central Railway (SCR) has successfully introduced energy conservation measures by replacing all the existing fluorescent bulbs with LED lights at various stations in the division. This replacement has saved a sum of Rs 131.15 lakh per annum for the division.

Energy conservation measures were reportedly adopted at all 158 railway stations in the Vijayawada division for the 100 per cent LED illumination of the facilities. This has saved around 12.06 lakh units of electricity per annum. The division, as a part of the initiative, identified all the level-crossing gates in the division and the lighting arrangements there have been converted to LEDs. This initiative had led to a saving of 2.01 lakh units of power per annum.

Further, according to reports, the staff-quarters area in the jurisdiction of the division were covered and around 885 staff quarters in the Kakinada Port-Vijayawada section were switched to 100 per cent LED lit places. This transformation has saved around  1.51 lakh units of  power per annum, thus saving a sum of Rs 13.69 lakh per annum in the process. As per reports, till date, around Rs 15.58 lakh units of power, the cost of which is Rs 131.15 lakh per annum, have been saved by the division.
