Afcons, SAM JV wins Rs 2,907 cr deal for Kanpur-Agra metro projects

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC) has issued two major civil contracts worth Rs 2,907.46 crores to the joint venture (JV) of Afcons Infrastructure Limited and SAM India Builtwell Private Limited for constructing underground tunnels and stations for Kanpur and Agra Metro Rail projects.

The project work order value is Rs 1,819.79 crore. The work includes designing and constructing a 7.93 km underground tunnel from the start of the underground ramp to the end of the ramp after the RBS college metro station, including seven underground metro stations, architectural finishes, Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) works, Tunnel Ventilation System (TVS), Environmental Control System (ECS) etc. on Agra Metro Rail Corridor 1 project.

The tender was floated for contract package AGCC-02 of Agra Metro in August 2021 with an estimated cost of Rs 2,200 crores. The deadline for the project is 36 months. The technical bids were opened in November 2021 and received seven bids.

The project will be financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) through a €480 million official development assistance (ODA) loan signed with UPMRC.

The Agra Metro Corridor 1 of 14.25 km will connect Sikandra to Taj East Gate with 14 stations. The 7 km priority section of this metro corridor will be commissioned by March 2024.

The package KNPCC-06 of Kanpur Metro has a work order value of Rs 1,087.67 crore.

The work includes designing and constructing a 4.65 km tunnel boring machine (TBM), cut and cover tunnel, the underground ramp from Kanpur Central end of Nayaganj station to elevated ramp after Transport Nagar and three underground metro stations, including architectural finishes, E&M works, TVS, ECS etc. on Kanpur Metro Rail Corridor 1 project.

The tender was floated for package KNPCC-06 of Kanpur Metro in June 2021 with an estimated cost of Rs 1,250 crores. The deadline for the project is 36 months. The technical bids were opened in October 2021 and received eight bids.
