Agra metro launches TBM Shivaji for tunnel construction

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has marked another milestone in the development of the Agra Metro system by launching the third Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named 'TBM Shivaji'. The machine is set to construct tunnels in the ramp area of the underground section within the Agra Metro Priority Corridor. At the launch event, top officials, including UPMRC's Managing Director Shri Sushil Kumar and Director (Works and Infrastructure) Shri Chandrapal Singh, were in attendance.

MD Sushil Kumar praised the achievement and highlighted that the Agra Metro will set a global benchmark for constructing an underground section with exceptional speed. The Agra Metro Priority Corridor, encompassing six stations (three elevated and three underground), is progressing swiftly.

Utilizing the cut-and-cover method, ramps are being constructed to link these sections seamlessly. TBM Shivaji's deployment will facilitate tunnel construction from the Taj Mahal Metro Station to the retrieval site. As Agra anticipates the development of a comprehensive metro network, comprising 29.4 km and 27 stations across two corridors, the successful deployment of TBM Shivaji represents a significant step forward in realizing the city's modern transportation infrastructure.
