Ahmedabad railway station to transform into integrated hub by 2027

The Kalupur-based Ahmedabad railway station is undergoing a significant transformation to become an integrated hub serving the Indian Railways, the bullet train, and the metro. Inspired by the Modhera Sun Temple, the new railway station is slated for completion by 2027.

Railway authorities have confirmed that two Archaeological Survey of India monuments?the Shaking Minarets and Brick Minarets?located on the station premises will be incorporated into the new complex and preserved.

As part of the redevelopment initiative, the station will feature a spacious roof plaza above the tracks, consolidating all passenger amenities in one location. This will include areas for stores, cafeterias, and recreational facilities. The station building will span both sides of the tracks, with a master plan designed to facilitate smooth traffic flow and provide ample parking facilities.

Officials have outlined specific entry points for different modes of transportation. The Kalupur side entry will cater to Indian Railways and BRTS, with convenient walkways linking it to the metro and bullet train stations. On the Saraspur side, direct access will be available to the bullet train and metro stations, with separate entries and exits to prevent congestion.

The DRA-DMRC JV, a joint venture between Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, has been awarded the contract for the project. A fresh tender was issued after the Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) canceled a previous one due to high bids. The new tender, valued at Rs 2,563 crore, attracted multiple companies, and the DRA-DMRC JV secured the project with a bid of Rs 2,383 crore.

The redevelopment project, a part of the Amrut Bharat Station Yojna, aims to create a modern station complex featuring 16 buildings, including a hotel. Passengers can expect facilities comparable to those found at airports.
