Gurugram Metro Rail Floats Rs. 16.62 bn Tender for Phase 2

Gurugram Metro Rail (GMRL) has floated a tender for the Phase 2 priority corridor between Sector 9 and DLF Cyber Hub. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 16.62 bn and includes a 14.2-km metro corridor, 13 stations and double-decker flyovers at Bajghera and Old Delhi Road. The project will be financed by the World Bank.

The appointed contractor will be required to prepare and implement a traffic management plan to maintain safe vehicular movement during construction. The work will include surveys of the viaduct alignment, geotechnical investigations at foundation locations, and construction of piles, pier caps and U-type girders.

The proposed stations are located at Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phase 4, Udyog Vihar Phase 5 and Cyber City. Platforms are planned to accommodate six-car trains, with each station’s design linked to its peak-hour traffic load.

The tender includes an estimated 800-metre double-decker stretch at Bajghera and a 1.2-km stretch on Old Delhi Road. The lower tier will carry vehicular traffic, while the upper tier will accommodate the metro viaduct. The contractor will also design temporary and permanent works for the structures and prepare traffic diversion plans with the Gurugram Traffic Police.

Bids can be submitted between November 9 and November 18, and the selected contractor must complete the project within 30 months of receiving the work order. The Phase 1 corridor, extending 15.2 km from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, is under construction and has recorded around 15 per cent physical progress across its 14 stations. The project’s detailed report projects a maximum peak-hour peak-direction trip figure of 34,309 for 2041.
