Hoskote Metro Link Plans 11 Stations from KR Puram

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has moved the proposed Hoskote metro link into detailed planning, preparing a detailed project report for a 16.3-km corridor between KR Puram and Hoskote in east Bengaluru. The line is planned to have 11 stations and is intended to improve public transport access to a rapidly expanding suburban and industrial belt.

The alignment would begin at KR Puram and serve ITI Bhavan, TC Palya, Bhattarahalli, Bhattarahalli Junction, Medahalli Junction, Avalahalli, Budigere Cross, Katamnallur Gate, Hoskote Toll Plaza and Hoskote Government Hospital. The project is being prioritised from KR Puram instead of extending the Purple Line directly from Kadugodi. BMRCL's financial assessment has indicated an internal rate of return of 19 per cent, although the outcome will depend on the report, approvals, funding and construction decisions.

The proposal forms part of broader transport planning around Hoskote. Integrated high-speed rail stations are planned for the proposed Bengaluru-Chennai and Bengaluru-Hyderabad corridors, while officials are examining land near Kodihalli for a rail depot, workshops and an operations control centre. About 80 hectares may be required for this infrastructure, although the supplied report did not detail land acquisition or final approvals.

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is open between Hoskote and Baireddypalli in Andhra Pradesh across a stretch of about 100 km. Commuters from Kolar, Chintamani and Malur rely heavily on Hoskote to enter Bengaluru, strengthening its role as an eastern gateway. Traffic on the highway could exceed 80,000 vehicles after the Satellite Town Ring Road is completed and connected to Hosur Road. A proposal has therefore been raised for a double-decker arrangement, with a metro line above a road flyover to separate local and through traffic.

Separately, BMRCL is building a roughly 420-metre elevated section between Whitefield station and Milan Road. The contract, awarded to Buildtek, is valued at Rs. 648.1 mn and has an 18-month deadline; this work is separate from the proposed corridor. The immediate milestone for Hoskote is completion of the detailed project report, followed by separate technical, financial, land and administrative approvals before construction.
