Hyderabad Infrastructure Works Worth Rs. 520 bn Progressing Rapidly

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said infrastructure development works worth Rs. 520 bn were progressing rapidly in Hyderabad. The projects include roads, flyovers, bridges, underpasses and drinking water lines, with a significant portion being implemented within the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority limits.

Speaking at the launch of the TGSRTC–Metro Rail Common Pass, Vikramarka said works valued at Rs. 350 bn had been taken up within the HMDA area. These projects form part of the State government’s broader plans to improve urban mobility, strengthen connectivity and expand essential infrastructure across Hyderabad.

He said the Hyderabad Metro Rail network would be expanded by 122 km under Phase 2. The proposed project, estimated to cost about Rs. 380 bn, is intended to provide connectivity to the Old City, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Patancheru and Hayathnagar.

Vikramarka also said the Regional Ring Road project was being developed to extend Hyderabad’s growth beyond the city limits and connect different parts of Telangana. The 362-km project, which will link all districts, has an estimated cost of Rs. 306.27 bn. The government is also developing 21 radial roads to connect the Outer Ring Road with the Regional Ring Road. Alignment approvals have been issued for 10 roads, while work has started on two.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the State had begun measures to revive the Musi river, with Phase 1 works already under way. He added that electric buses were being introduced to replace diesel buses and reduce air pollution. Hyderabad has already received 550 electric buses, while another 2,200 are planned. The government has also sanctioned Rs. 2 bn for retrofitting diesel auto-rickshaws so drivers can convert them into electric vehicles.
