India Will Have World's 2-Largest Metro System

The Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, made a significant announcement on Friday, stating that India is on track to have the world's second-largest operational urban transport metro system within the next 18 months. He noted that this system would surpass even the size of the metro network in the United States.

Speaking with ANI in Delhi, Minister Hardeep Puri also shed light on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) Corridor, describing it as a crucial development in terms of high-speed connectivity between cities. He pointed out that, currently, the distance between Delhi and Meerut is typically covered in approximately 3 hours under prevailing traffic conditions. However, with the completion of this project, the same journey will be drastically reduced to just 50-55 minutes, marking a substantial improvement in connectivity.

Additionally, Minister Puri emphasized the correlation between economic growth and urban expansion, asserting that as the Indian economy continues to prosper, investments in the urban sector will correspondingly increase. He anticipates that with the growth in the country's GDP, there will be an expansion in urban infrastructure, facilities, and amenities, ultimately benefiting the citizens.
