Indian Railways Approves Daily Express Between Mumbai CSMT And Sawantwadi Road

Indian Railways has approved a new daily express service between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai, and Sawantwadi Road to boost rail connectivity across Maharashtra and the Konkan region. The service will operate over a 510-km route and will run daily as Train No. 15087 CSMT–Sawantwadi Road Express and Train No. 15088 Sawantwadi Road–CSMT Express. It is intended to provide direct and reliable rail connectivity for passengers travelling for tourism, education, employment and business. The Ministry of Railways said the move forms part of ongoing efforts to expand passenger services.

The train will have commercial stoppages at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Valivade, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Nandgaon Road, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Sawantwadi Road. These scheduled halts are intended to improve accessibility for residents of key towns and districts along the Konkan coast and to provide an additional direct link with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Planners expect the daily service to complement existing trains on the route and to offer passengers more options for travel planning.

The ministry indicated that the new service could boost tourism by making travel more convenient for visitors heading to the Konkan region's beaches, forts, temples and eco?tourism destinations, and that it is expected to benefit daily commuters, students, traders and small businesses. Officials suggested the train would facilitate smoother passenger movement and improve travel convenience while meeting growing demand for rail transport along the Konkan route. The service is presented as a measure to support regional economic development and to promote balanced growth through improved connectivity.

Rail planners noted that the introduction reflects Indian Railways' continued commitment to expanding passenger connectivity and enhancing travel convenience, with the new daily express forming part of a broader strategy to strengthen the railway network in the western coastal belt. Operators will monitor patronage and may adjust services to optimise schedules and capacity over time. Passengers are advised to refer to official railway timetables and announcements for booking and operational details.
