Karnataka CM declares Rs 15,000 cr for 37 km Sarjapur-Hebbal line

On Friday, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai declared a new 37-km Sarjapur and Hebbal line worth Rs 15,000 crore.

He additionally offered minor relief to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) by providing a minor extension of three months to the Outer Ring Road-Airport Line (Phase 2A & 2B Lines) and declared March 2025 as the new deadline.

The Sarjapur line was earlier decided as a part of Metro Phase-3 and an announcement for this was made in the 2018-2019 budget. But, in 2021, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Phase-3 line was finalised and only two corridors were declared.

On 4th March, in his speech, the CM told the media that action will be taken to prepare a Detailed Project Report in the year 2022-2023 for the development of a new 37 km long new Metro line linking Sarjapur to Hebbal via Agara, Koramangala and Diary Circle at an estimated cost of Rs 15,000 crore.

The DPR for Phase-3 will be presented to the Central government for approval, he added. The 45-km project is estimated to cost Rs 11,250 crore which will include 32 km on Outer Ring Road from Hebbal to JP Nagar and 13 km between Hosahalli and Kadabagere.

During the budget speech, March 2025 is set as the deadline for completing the 58.19 km line from the Central Silk Board to the Airport Line (Phase 2A and Phase 2B).

CM Bommai additionally declared connectivity between Bengaluru Metro and railway stations for Rs 55 crore. The connectivity will turn up at Whitefield, K R Puram, Baiyappanahalli, Yesvantpur, and Yelahanka. Lastly, the CM restated that 33 km metro lines will be added in the current financial year.
