Across the Newaj River’s sweeping terrain, 37 spans and towering piers are taking shape to carry a new railway corridor through Madhya Pradesh. With piers rising up to 40 m and composite girders forming the elevated structure, the project brings together precision engineering, specialised construction techniques and the challenges of building across a riverine landscape. Part of the Ramganjmandi–Bhopal new railway line, the Newaj River bridge-cum-viaduct is being executed by Rahee Infratech on the Rajgarh–Biyavra section for West Central Railway. Extending across the river and adjoining terrain, the structure forms a major elevated crossing on a corridor intended to improve regional rail connectivity.Courtesy: Rahee Infratech  The viaduct comprises 37 major spans of 30.5 m each, providing a cumulative nominal span length of 1,128.5 m. Its alignment carries the railway across the Newaj River and surrounding low-lying terrain, with closely spaced supports forming a continuous elevated passage through the landscape. Rising up to 40 m above ground level, the reinforced-concrete piers form the principal vertical supports of the viaduct. Their construction uses slip-form shuttering technology, enabling the formwork to advance progressively as concrete is placed. The method is suited to the repetitive, high-level pier construction required for this railway crossing. Courtesy: Rahee Infratech The Newaj River crossing presents a distinct construction challenge, with elevated spans carried across the watercourse and adjoining banks. Developing the structure requires the integration of high-level substructures and composite-girder superstructures, while accommodating varying ground levels along the railway alignment.Courtesy: Rahee InfratechRahee’s scope includes the fabrication, assembly and erection of composite girders for the viaduct’s 37 spans. Combining steel and concrete elements, the superstructure transfers railway loads to the supporting piers. Its completion will remove a significant physical barrier along the alignment, supporting the corridor’s eventual role in improving passenger and freight connectivity across parts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.FACT FILE - Project: Newaj River Bridge-Cum-Viaduct - Location: Rajgarh–Biyavra section, Madhya Pradesh - Railway Project: Ramganjmandi–Bhopal New Rail Line - Railway Authority: West Central Railway - Executing Company: Rahee Infratech - Project Cost: Rs 191 crore - Structure: Railway bridge-cum-viaduct - Number of Spans: 37 - Span Length: 30.5 m each - Cumulative Nominal Span Length: 1,128.5 m - Construction Technology: Slip-form shuttering for high-level piers - Project Status: Under execution - Scheduled Completion: October 2026
