PM Modi May Inaugurate Bengaluru Metro Pink Line on November 15

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Pink Line is awaiting final clearance before its first operational stretch opens to the public. Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the line on November 15, although the proposed visit has not been officially confirmed.

Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the date for the Prime Minister’s visit could be finalised by mid-November. He has sought a meeting with Union Minister Manohar Lal on November 3 or 4 to seek clarity on the inauguration, but that meeting has not yet been confirmed. Shivakumar wrote to Modi on October 6, inviting him to inaugurate the project.

The first section to open is a 7.5-km elevated stretch connecting Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere. The corridor underwent a safety inspection from October 6 to 8 by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), which raised observations that needed to be addressed before passenger services could begin.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has completed action on the observations and is now waiting for the CMRS’s final clearance. The approval will determine when the elevated section can begin public operations. Until that clearance is issued, the opening date and inauguration arrangements remain subject to change.

Once operational, the stretch will expand Bengaluru’s metro network from 96.1 km to 103.6 km. The Pink Line is expected to improve connectivity between southern Bengaluru locations along its route and provide commuters with an alternative to road transport. Further announcements on the inauguration and passenger operations are expected after the pending approvals are completed.
