Rajamahendravaram Railway Station Upgrade to Cost Rs. 2.74 bn

Rajamahendravaram railway station in Andhra Pradesh is being upgraded with modern amenities at a cost of over Rs. 2.74 bn, according to Daggubati Purandeswari, the Lok Sabha member representing the constituency. The project is intended to improve facilities available to passengers using the station.

Purandeswari made the announcement while participating in the Asheervada Deepotsavam programme at the station on Monday. She said the modernisation would provide improved facilities to large numbers of passengers, with the benefits being particularly relevant during major events such as Pushkaralu.

She linked the station project to wider development support being extended to Andhra Pradesh by the Central government. The initiatives she mentioned included the construction of the Polavaram project, the capital project at Amaravati, measures to safeguard the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and the establishment of a dedicated railway zone.

Purandeswari said Central government support was important for the progress of the State. She also presented the event at the station as an example of the government’s focus on development and referred to welfare schemes introduced for poor people, farmers, self-help groups, young people, workers and marginalised communities.

She highlighted the Jeevan Jyoti Yojana and Jeevan Suraksha Yojana as social security initiatives that had benefited poor households. She added that other measures had been implemented to extend social security to workers in the unorganised sector. The station upgrade is therefore being presented alongside broader infrastructure and welfare efforts in the State.
