Union Budget 2026 Boosts Metro Rail Projects Nationwide

Budgetary support for India’s metro rail sector has risen sharply, with the Union Budget 2026 allocating Rs 287,400 million for metro and mass rapid transit projects across the country. The enhanced allocation underscores the government’s focus on strengthening urban mobility infrastructure.

Lucknow Metro Gets Rs 14,500 Million Boost

The Union Budget 2026 has recently provided a major push to the Lucknow Metro Phase 1B project with an allocation of Rs 14,500 million. Phase 1B comprises a single metro corridor spanning 11.165 km from Lucknow Railway Station (Charbagh) to Vasant Kunj, covering 12 stations. Of these, five stations will be elevated, while seven will be underground. The Union Cabinet had approved the Phase 1B project on 12 August at an estimated cost of Rs 58,010 million.

Pune Metro Gets Rs 5,170 Million Allocation

The Budget has also earmarked around Rs 5,170 million for the Pune Metro project. However, Maha-Metro is yet to receive a detailed break-up of the allocation. Officials stated that a clear execution roadmap will be finalised once the funding specifics are communicated."
