Thiruvananthapuram Smart City projects near completion

Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation Mayor S Arya Rajendran told the media on Monday that various projects being implemented under the corporation's smart city plan for the city are nearing completion.

Rajendran told the media that the Ponnara Sreedhar park in Thampanoor, which has been renovated and illuminated as part of the Smart City project, is ready for use. Water kiosks are also nearing completion in 12 locations throughout the city.

A mosquito density system has been installed in four locations. At Putharikandam, Palayam, and Thampanoor, work on multilevel car parking has begun. Other projects are currently being built, including a vending zone on RKV Road near Museum Junction and a foot overbridge at East Fort. On Tuesday, the mayor will visit East Fort to inspect the progress of the foot overbridge construction.

The annual plan activities for the years 2021-22 are moving along quickly as part of the people's planning programme. The corporation's goal, according to the mayor, is to spend 100 % of the project fund this fiscal year.

Smart City is one of four key flagship missions launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The goal of this mission is to use smart solutions to provide core infrastructure and a decent quality of life for its citizens, as well as a clean and sustainable environment.

The main goal of the smart city project is to focus on enabling local area development and harnessing technology, particularly technology that leads to smart outcomes, to drive economic growth and improve people's quality of life.
