NeGD to Support Bharat Taxi in Building Cooperative Ride Platform

In a significant move for India’s digital and mobility transformation, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) of the Digital India Corporation, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has entered into an advisory partnership with Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, the company behind Bharat Taxi — a first-of-its-kind, cooperative-led national ride-hailing platform.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between NeGD and Sahakar Taxi to provide strategic advisory and technical support covering key areas such as platform integration, cybersecurity, data privacy, compliance, and governance.

Bharat Taxi is jointly promoted by major cooperative and financial institutions, including NCDC, IFFCO, AMUL, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NABARD, NDDB, and NCEL. The initiative reflects the spirit of India’s cooperative movement, aligned with the Digital India vision of delivering inclusive, transparent, and citizen-centric digital services.

Key Areas of Collaboration

Under this collaboration, NeGD will support Bharat Taxi across four major domains:

Platform Integration & Technical Architecture: Integration of Bharat Taxi with national digital platforms like DigiLocker, UMANG, and API Setu to enable seamless identity verification and efficient service delivery.

Security, Compliance & Infrastructure: Guidance on compliance with the Government of India’s data protection and cybersecurity standards, along with advice on strengthening the platform’s technical infrastructure.

Programme Advisory: Governance and programme management support based on NeGD’s expertise in developing large-scale digital public platforms.

UI/UX & Accessibility: Advisory inputs for multilingual interface design, inclusive access features, and enhanced user experience for all citizens.

The upcoming launch of Bharat Taxi in December 2025 marks a major milestone in India’s mobility ecosystem, offering a cooperative-driven, transparent, and citizen-first alternative to global ride-hailing models. The platform aims to ensure fair pricing, driver empowerment, and passenger trust, creating a new paradigm in ethical and inclusive mobility.

Through this collaboration, NeGD reinforces its commitment to developing secure, interoperable, and scalable digital public infrastructure that advances India’s digital governance agenda while empowering citizens across the country.
