HMWS&SB wants AP govt to allot Rs 20 bn

Andhra Pradesh government received a request to allocate Rs 2,000 crore from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) for 2013-14.

Of the total amount, the board wants Rs 920 crore for implementing the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Project (Maulana Abul Kalam Hyderabad Sujala Sravanthi Scheme) and Rs 250 crore for the Krishna Drinking Water Project Phase-III.

The board sent proposals to the tune of Rs 180 crore to improve the water supply network in Greater Hyderabad and peripheral areas.

The board complains that id is not getting the state government's share of funding for its projects although it is spending crores of rupees through the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renew Mission (JNNURM).

In order to implement the sewerage master plan (SMP) in the city, the board asked the government to allot another Rs 222 crore in the budget for 2013-14.

To improve water supply network in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) jurisdiction, the Water Board has sought Rs 150 crore and another Rs 5 crore for remodeling existing sewerage network. As part of plans to control pollution in the Musi, it has sought Rs 100 crore.
