Delhi-NCR will soon have an e-waste management park

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has decided to address environmental concerns and enhance public health infrastructure in the National Capital Region (NCR) during a meeting chaired by Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

He cleared changing the land use for four major projects that would enable the redevelopment of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as a world-class medical university with enriched facilities and capacity. It would also allow installing a first-of-its-kind e-waste management park by providing a land parcel for the purpose.

It will allow the establishment of headquarters for the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the construction of RSS or ESS at Kashmere Gate for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Project Phase III.

The redevelopment of AIIMS will include five land parcels of 79.73 hectares for constructing a world-class medical university and a change of land use of 1.69 hectares of land from recreational zones for the public and semi-public to allow AIIMS to fall into planning zone F.

Moreover, it will boost healthcare facilities in Delhi and NCR. The campus redevelopment will be expanded with a new hospital for 3,000 beds, new academic and research buildings for multiple graduate and post-graduate programmes and new hostel blocks.

The e-waste management park is a crucial part of the development plan that the DDA will be working on soon. The park will be made of recycled e-waste materials to ensure that all waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) is collected, stored, dismantled and recycled in an eco-friendly manner. DDA will permit the NDRF access to land for use for its headquarters.
