India, Nepal Ink Pact for Water, Sanitation Cooperation

India and Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector, including waste management. The agreement aims to improve access to clean drinking water and sanitation in both countries.

The signing ceremony took place at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi, with Union Minister of Jal Shakti C R Patil and Nepal’s Minister of Water Supply Pradeep Yadav in attendance.

The MoU outlines collaboration in key areas, including training Nepali personnel in water resource management, sharing technological expertise, and joint monitoring of groundwater resources. Efforts will focus on quality improvement, artificial recharge, and rainwater harvesting.

C R Patil highlighted India’s achievements under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in ensuring clean water and sanitation. He stated that the agreement reflects the shared commitment of both nations to public health and sustainability. Pradeep Yadav praised India’s large-scale initiatives and emphasized Nepal’s interest in learning from India's experience. He proposed regular meetings to ensure progress and knowledge exchange.

Senior officials from both countries, including ambassadors and secretaries, attended the event. The MoU marks a new chapter in India-Nepal cooperation, reinforcing their commitment to a sustainable future.
