AMC proposal to turn a road into concrete one

In Ahmedabad, a 3.25 km-long road stretch, from Pakwaan junction via SG Road, Sindhu Bhavan to Sardar Patel Ring Road, is going to be developed into concrete road. For this the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has put forth a proposal worth Rs 38.89 crore. The proposal mentions that that the California Bearing Ratio (CBR), which is a measure of the load-bearing capacity of a road, was far too low for the 3.2 km stretch and that the sub-grade layer beneath the asphalt needed to be strengthened. The stretch will be dug 1.1 metre to strengthen the sub-grade before concrete is poured. The civic body claims that it had conducted CBR tests for the Pakwaan junction-SP Ring Road stretch and found that the quality did not meet the required standards.
