Foundation laid for widening work of Jandiali-Kohara road

Foundation for widening work on road leading from Jandiali to Kohara in Punjab was laid by the State PWD Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon on April 11. This road will serve as a bypass to the people of Dhanansu, Bhudewal, Mehlon and Paharuwal, and their distance to Sahnewal town will be cut short by several kilometres. A total of Rs 2 crore will be spent on this bypass road and it will be completed in three months.

The Minister said that the people of the area had been demanding the widening of this road from existing 10 feet to 18 feet. Chairman of the District Cooperative Union Dharamjit Singh Gill along with other people, including sarpanches and panches of the area, had met the Minister and demanded immediate construction of this bypass. Last week, the Punjab government had approved this project.

NRIs felt it was the right time to invest in Punjab as the Akali government was stable and would stay for the next at least 25 years, Dhillon said. He said a lot of roads with heavy rush had been identified and would be widened shortly. These roads included Ropar-Navanshahr-Banga-Phagwara road, Ladhowal Bypass of Ludhiana, and Kapurthala-Ropar-Phillaur road.
