Freight handling rises 5.3% for Indian Railways

The revenue earnings freight carried by Indian Railways expanded 5.30 per cent to 565.37 million tonne in the current financial year up to October 2012.

During the same period last year, the railways carried 536.92 million tonne of revenue earning freight. During the month of October 2012, the revenue earning freight traffic carried by Indian Railways was 83.92 million tonne.

There is an increase of 6.24 million tonne over the actual freight traffic of 77.68 million tonne carried by the Indian Railways during the same period last year, showing an increase of 8.03 per cent.
